From whatever-the-weather walks in the stunning Surrey countryside, to cycle rides, and things to do when you're in the neighbourhood.

Beautiful Betchworth, Surrey

We love where we live. And there’s absolutely no doubt that Surrey is stunning.

With wonderfully-wild walks, lakes and river routes (oh, there’s even a castle) on your doorstep, you’ll always find something to do when you’re in the neighbourhood. Not to mention there are a few rather lovely pubs to pop into too.

We have a not-so-small car park here at The Dolphin, so whether you’re rambling on foot, or looking to drive here for a restorative lunch, your day is as stress-free as can be.

St Michael’s Church

This quaint medieval church is (hands down) a historic beauty-spot.

In addition to being a top-spot to stop and light a candle, or spend a quiet moment of contemplation, the church is a little bit famous.

St Michael’s featured in Four Weddings and a Funeral (that 90’s cult-classic film, starring foppish hottie Hugh Grant.)

Surrey Cycling

Cyclists love to stop (and refresh themselves) at our lovely pub. Whether they’re warming up inside, or pulling up in the garden, cyclists are always greeted warmly.

With great tea & coffee, modern bike racks (plus a few spare bike locks to lend) and oodles of fuel-you-up food, The Dolphin is a great spot to stop on your ride.

Surrey Hills

The Surrey Hills boasts some ramble-eriffic walking and hiking routes. With eye-bogglingly beautiful views, fascinating landmarks to explore and (tail wagging-ly) good dog walks.

Nothing beats a day spent strolling over the gloriously green countryside with your furry bestie.

Box Hill

Blimey, this National Trust treasure is a crowd pleaser.

Spot-on for a day of dog walking, you can lose yourself in the woodlands for a day of exploration and adventure. Looking for a day out with kids? There are little-or-long child friendly pathways (with little play areas and picnic spots along the way) meandering through the stunning Surrey Hills.

Then, just 15-minutes drive to The Dolphin for a hearty dinner and a pint of something lovely.

Betchworth Castle

Once a fortified medieval stone building, Betchworth Castle is worthy of exploration (and perhaps a selfie or two) and it overlooks the western bank of the River Mole.

If you’re a fan of ghostly tales (as we are) apparently the castle is haunted by a black dog that stalks the ruins at night. There’s also the legend of the Lord of the Manor who (so the story goes) chased and murdered an escaping convict (later discovered to be his son) and now haunts the ruins.
